Cancer Prevention week 9th – 13th May 2011

The 8 top tips for cancer prevention are:

  • being physically active for at least 30 minutes a day.
  • Be as lean as possible without being underweight.
  • Limit consumption of energy dense foods (high in fat and sugar and low in fibre) and avoid sugary drinks
  • Eat a variety of vegetables, fruits, wholegrains and pulses.
  • Limit consumption of red meats (beef, pork and lamb) and avoid processed meats.
  • If consumed at all limit alcoholic drinks to 2 for men and 1 for women per day.
  • Limit consumption of salty foods and food processed with salt.
  • Don’t use supplements to protect against cancer – choose a balanced diet instead.
